Prajapragathi is the most widely read newspaper in Tumkur and gets published out of Tumkur, Chitradurga and Davanagere. It started as a weekly newspaper under the editorship of C N bhasharappa and became a daily newspaper on 26th January 1988 under the editorship of S Naganna. The Chitradurga edition was started in 1997 and Davanagere edition started in 2005.
